PEPTIDES are natural molecules that send a signal to the body’s cells and control the production of collagen. It has also been shown that they stimulate the expression of elastin and glycosaminoglycans (GAG), such as hyaluronic acid (HA). Peptides improve the skin’s mechanical resistance.


Hyaluronic acid is an important natural component of the skin, which is produced by fibroblasts and helps to maintain collagen, increase hydration and improve elasticity and suppleness. Hyaluronic acid and collagen work together in your body to maintain the structure of your skin. Collagen provides mechanical resistance for connective tissues, while hyaluronic acid helps to hydrate them.


ORGANIC SILICON stimulates the production of collagen. Along with vitamin C, silicon protects the formation of collagen and elastin, which are components of the skin’s connective tissues. Elastin stores are formed during adolescence and decrease over time. As we age, elastin is replaced by collagen, which is less stretchy, leaving us with looser skin and resulting in the appearance of wrinkles. Silicon counteracts elastase, which damages elastin, and helps to maintain elastin in our bodies for longer.


CERAMIDES prevent the destruction of collagen. They protect the integrity of the collagen network: ceramosides trigger the production of a collagenase inhibitor. Collagenase is an enzyme responsible for the deterioration of the collagen network.


POLYPHENOLS are anti-radicals and protect the cell membrane from deteriorating. There is an increasing body of evidence suggesting that grape polyphenols help protect the skin from accelerated ageing due to ultra-violet (UV) rays, with anti-melanogenic, anti-wrinkle and antioxidant properties.


VITAMIN C is a secondary antioxidant. Along with collagen peptides, vitamin C supports collagen synthesis in the skin. Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is an antioxidant that slows the development of lesions caused by free radicals in the skin. It also helps to repair and generate tissues, acting as an antioxidant itself and stimulating the regeneration of antioxidants in the body.


VITAMIN E is a secondary antioxidant. Vitamin E (tocopherol) is a liposoluble nutrient. Its primary function is to protect the long-chain unsaturated fatty acids in cell membranes and lipoproteins from oxidation. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that provides benefits for the skin by strengthening capillary walls and supporting hydration and elasticity. It acts as a natural anti-ageing nutrient in your body. These antioxidant properties are also useful in the case of skin that is exposed to cigarette smoke or the sun’s ultraviolet rays, and provide protection from skin cancer. Vitamins C and E work in synergy.


Zinc plays a role in the process of cell division. It helps to protect cells from oxidative stress. These actions may be directly linked to preventing premature skin ageing. Zinc is an essential mineral found in every cell in the body. It plays an important role in maintaining good health, as well as preventing illnesses and premature ageing. Zinc is responsible for some specific aspects of the functions of cell metabolism, protein synthesis, cell division and cell repair, which means it is also effective against skin ageing. Zinc acts as an antioxidant. Although it is not technically an antioxidant itself (unlike vitamins C and E, for example), zinc is a fundamental part of the protection of skin through diet.


SODs (superoxide dismutases) are primary antioxidants that stimulate the skin’s antioxidant defences to provide increased protection from oxidative stress. Found both in and outside of cell membranes, directly in the places where free radicals are generated, SODs (fundamental antioxidant enzymes) play an essential role in preventing oxidative stress. Watermelon extract is a source of the enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD), which supports the body’s internal antioxidant defence systems. It enables the body to neutralise harmful free radicals in the body, known as superoxide radicals.
